Cost Estimating

Design Collaborative tailors design solutions that are right for each individual client. We recognize that it is just as important that we also do this within a construction cost that is achievable based on the owner’s budget. We are very aware of the dynamic state of the current construction market and the impact the pandemic has had that will cause a ripple effect. To that end, we will utilize a variety of tools/methods to assure that we are able to deliver a final solution that meets your budget, schedule, and goals. This often includes needs versus wants discussions, prioritization exercises, and implementation of early alternative bid packages.

Cost estimating

Communication of the budget status is one key to success throughout the project to avoid any surprises for you or redesign on our part. We strive to provide the best experience for our clients, and this includes projecting construction costs as accurately as possible based on real-time market data. Our in-house Chief Cost Estimator Thad Berkes works diligently to survey the market and prepare construction budgets based on the design solution that are generally within -2 to +1% of actual bid packages. Design Collaborative has a strong history of project performance in many aspects. Often the value of change orders during construction is an indicator of our ability to ask the right questions, guiding the team to the right solution and, ultimately, providing clear enough direction to the contractors and material suppliers during the bidding process to minimize changes in the field. We are proud to say that we have been able to maintain a very low value of change orders on our projects. Of course, there are many variables that can impact this, but our projects average less than 2 percent of the value of construction in change orders. By some reports, this is less than 25 percent of the national average — one reason why our clients continue to trust Design Collaborative with their architecture and engineering needs.
