World Architecture Day – Improving Worlds
October 5, 2021Explore by Topic
World Architecture Day was established in 1985, honoring those who design and create the built world that we live in. This year, World Architecture Day specifically focuses on healthy living, with the theme of a “clean environment for a healthy world.” |

This past year especially, we have explored many new ways to design healthier spaces, with clean air options, safe collaboration areas with distancing as a possibility, and non-touch surfaces.Beyond that, we have also dived into the world of overall wellness, taking a look at not only physical health, but a person’s overall well-being when it comes to a space. |
An example of one of these spaces that we designed is Andrews University’s Andreasen Center for Wellness. This facility is for students, faculty, and staff from Andrews University, as well as the surrounding community. It is designed for the exploration of mind, body and spirit instead of just simply physical fitness. |

DC has also had the opportunity to design green roofs, which play a part in creating a “clean environment for a healthy world.”The University of Notre Dame’s Joyce Center green roof is one of those projects, along with the Skyline Tower in Fort Wayne’s green roof. These are the largest green roofs in the state of Indiana. |
