Highlights include the revitalized media center, cozy seating areas, and organized shelves full of books and hands-on tools.

The design at Whitney Young was guided by its identity as a Reggio Emilia-inspired early childhood magnet program.

This approach values self-directed learning, the environment as a teacher, and a deep connection to nature—reflected in the use of wood tones, natural patterns, and the absence of primary-color decorations.

The refreshed classrooms and shared spaces are warm, flexible, and inviting, with playful textures and visual cues that encourage exploration and collaboration. The scope also included a new secure vestibule and office area, along with accessibility, lighting, and finish upgrades—supporting a welcoming and inclusive environment for young learners.
