Trine University – John and Mary Pellegrino Student Design Center
Angola, Indiana
At Trine University, students don’t just learn about engineering—they live it. That’s the idea behind the new John and Mary Pellegrino Student Design Center, a 22,000-square-foot space created to give future engineers room to explore, test, and build.

Architecture, Interior Design, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Lighting Design,An addition to the west of Best Hall on Trine’s Angola campus, the center is designed with hands-on learning at its core.
It includes dedicated labs for robotics, aeronautics, and powertrain, along with over 8,000 square feet of fabrication space—enough room for bigger, more ambitious student projects than ever before. Working closely with Trine, our team focused on flow and function.
Labs connect directly to fabrication zones to support real-time problem solving. Spaces are arranged to encourage teamwork, with room for students to sketch out ideas, tinker with prototypes, and make adjustments as they go.
This facility is more than a home for student design—it’s a link between the university and the industries its students are preparing to join. A $1.5 million investment in fabrication equipment means the center will support everything from class projects to workforce training for local schools and businesses.
Named for John Pellegrino, a 1960 civil engineering graduate, and his wife Mary, the center honors a legacy of curiosity and commitment. As construction moves forward, so does the opportunity to give Trine students a place where ideas are not only encouraged—they’re built.
