Updated Healthcare Facility Guidelines Institute Version is Released

As with all buildings, codes are integral to creating a well-designed space that safeguards the health, safety, and wellbeing of its occupants. With hospitals and outpatient facilities, there are even more codes that are applicable due to the delicate nature of its occupants. Any hospital that accepts Medicare and Medicaid is required to abide by Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS)’s regulations, which includes additional codes: 2012 NFPA 101 and 99. Most states have also adopted some version of the Facility Guidelines Institute’s (FGI) “Design and Construction of Hospitals and Outpatient Facilities”.
