Tim Terman will present alongside Ashley Helmstetter of Heidelberg University in the session titled “A Fieldhouse for Everyone: Where Design Meets Mission.”
Centered on the development of Heidelberg’s Frann’s Fieldhouse, the presentation explores how a facility can move beyond athletics to become a true campus “third place.” Attendees will learn how intentional design decisions can create environments that invite connection, support student well-being, and foster a sense of belonging for all—not just varsity athletes.
Drawing on real-world experience, the session will highlight strategies for aligning facility investments with student success goals, designing flexible and inclusive spaces, and leveraging campus environments as everyday tools for engagement and retention. Participants will leave with practical, relatable insights for creating spaces that feel genuinely open, accessible, and integral to campus life.
