Skyline Tower is a city-changing project in Fort Wayne, where urban professionals can live, work, and play in the growing downtown. Through contemporary in aesthetic, Skyline Tower’s exterior is conceived as a combination of rather traditional building materials – the building exterior is clad in metal panel and siding with metallic and woodgrain finishes; exterior lighting highlights the building's architectural detail.
Through the thoughtful selection and application of these materials, the design intends to relate to its surroundings, and to be respectful without being deferential. The ultimate goal is to create a building that is contemporary, bold and iconic, reflective of its purpose, function, and context, and of its own time and place.
The first two floors are commercial spaces. The first floor houses Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse, a national chain known as one of the best steakhouse experiences. Design Collaborative coordinated with the Ruth’s Chris national design team to provide mechanical, electrical, and plumbing design services for the restaurants. The second floor houses new downtown offices for First Merchants Bank. The space features private offices, a large lounge, training spaces, and collaborative works spaces for the bank’s investment teams.
Floors 3-12 are residential, with 123 luxury apartments ranging from studio to three-bedroom units. Units were designed with a modern aesthetic – sleek kitchen spaces feature granite countertops, European-style cabinetry, and stainless steel appliances. Levels 6-12 feature a private balcony in each unit, allowing residents to sit outside and enjoy the views of the city from high above. Spacious and open concept living spaces, large walk-in closets, and floor to ceiling windows are features in these unique downtown apartments.
A shared patio space is located at level 3, encouraging residents to build community by lounging on patio furniture and using community grills for a cookout. A community room available for residents to reserve for parties and events is also located on the third level and connected to the outdoor patio. An exterior greenspace to walk pets is located on the fifth level. Residents also have access to Skyline Park, the largest green space in Indiana located on the roof of the parking garage connecting Skyline Tower and Ash Brokerage Skyline Plaza.
Over the past few years, downtown Fort Wayne has seen significant construction and renovation. Skyline Tower is aptly named because it not only plays a large role in this recent growth but it changes the city’s skyline. It impacts the community who lives, works, and plays downtown. Residents live in luxury apartments that overlook downtown and beyond. They have a prime view of downtown fireworks, can listen to summertime concerts from their balconies, and have a famous steakhouse on the first floor of their building, just an elevator ride away from home.
